Basic Info

The Gettysburg trip is fast approaching. We have the campsite at McMillian Woods Scout and Youth Group Camp reserved for Thursday June 27th, checking out Monday July 1st. Our campsite can accommodate 6 vehicles and 31 people (registered adult leaders and scouts) McMillian Woods is a primitive camping area, there are bathrooms but no showers. We will be allowed a campfire but must cook with propane.

Many families have indicated that although the adults and siblings will not be staying at McMillan Woods they would like to attend and participate some of the daily activities.  Listed are some of the area hotels.

1 mile from McMillian Woods Comfort Inn and Suites, 945 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg PA   $172.00

1.5 miles from McMillian Woods- Inn at Cemetery Hill, 613 Baltimore Pile, Gettysburg PA $135.00

1.7 miles from McMillian Woods- Quality Inn, 308 Steinwehr Ave, Gettysburg PA $105.00 this is a motel style property

2.2 miles from McMillian Woods- Hilton Garden Inn, 1061 York RD, Gettysburg PA $159.00

All mentioned hotels offer a pool and free breakfast.  It is important to note they should be booked soon, as this is close to the 4th of July Holiday and will likely sell out.

Cost

The campsite is free of charge from the National Park Service

Food- Menus to be planned in advance and shopping done locally in Gettysburg when we arrive. About 15.00 per day per child, we will have a better idea of cost after the meals are planned.

Boys may also want to bring some cash for souvenirs and meals while in transit to Pennsylvania.

Tours- the boys have chosen the 4 hour bus tour for $36.00 per person.  Families are welcome to join us on the tour.

There is also a charge to the Museum and Cyclorama $15.00 adults and $10.00 for children.

Transportation

It takes approximately 8 hours to get to Gettysburg. We plan on driving down as a caravan, at the completion of the camp out some families are continuing on to alternate destinations and the rest will caravan back to Hudson

There are several families that will have additional space to drive scouts that will be attending without parents.

Activities

The Scouts have chosen a bus tour of the park as well as touring the museum and Cyclorama at the Visitor Center. These can be done on separate days.  They have also indicated they would like to do the self-guided walking tour of Gettysburg.

They are still undecided on the 9 mile hike that would earn the merit badge and a tour of the Eisenhower Estate ($9.00 adults and $5.00 Children)
